Sand Point Closing Remarks From People

Hi Dennis,
I'm so sorry to hear about the closing! I absolutely loved the flea market and always found amazing things there. I've been telling everyone about it! Will there be one last market before you close on November 1st? Please let me know, I would love to come.

As much as I would like to do another show, I cannot. We have lost a number of dealers and our buyers have dropped from a high of about 900 to less than 100 at the last two shows. We blame both the economy and Seattle's DPD.

I sure like the words of support.

Dennis & Anita . . . First of all, thanks for all the good times and fun selling at Sand Point Antiques & Design Market. Your show remains one of the most reliably successful shows we've done. Seattle never made it easy for us, did they?! Your market was laid back, easy to move into, consistently attended by a loyal group of antique lovers, and unique (as it's owner). You tried everything possible to fight a battle that--sadly--the powers that be didn't seem to be interested in supporting. That is their loss.

Jim and I enjoyed working with you, Dennis . . . you gave us great freedom to extend our reach and were always so easy to work with. We appreciated the opportunity to work with you and get to know you better as a person. Your talents will no doubt launch you into a new--and hopefully easier--element of the industry that you so clearly love. We wish you and Anita all the best and look forward to seeing you at some of the Expo shows. Take care and stay in touch! Debi & Jim

This sucks! My friend and I JUST learned of this sale and went to the September event. We found some great items and had planned on making it a semi regular excursion. It's hard to find good "junk" sales in Seattle (or so I have found). I hope you are able to find a way to open back up. You have our support.

Is there anyone at the City of Seattle that we could email about this? I have been driving up to Seattle from Portland specifically to go to the Sandpoint market and am so sad to see it shut down. Please keep us posted if the market is reborn somewhere else......

More notes about the loss of Sand Point

Dennis, this is sad news indeed.

You have fought so long, ans so hard, and given so much of yourself to the antique & vintage industry in the Northwest. . . it is just so unfair that circumstances beyound your control are ending it all. Believe me, I know how that feels!

What I WILL say is that we never know where a road is going to lead.

I know you have a psssion for antiques, for history, and for the dealers who make up our local circuit. What I nor you can't see yet is that this road will certainly bring you an opprotunity for something completely different in the future, another way to be involved with something you are so knowledgeable and passionate about. People like you do not fade into the sunset, Dennis! You have too much to share, to say, to bring to life. Your writing is so engaging and educational - perhaps that is something you can pursue? You could even write a fiction book based on the intricate and dark inner workings of the Northwest antique industry!!!
Whatever you do, I know you will always exhibit the shining and fun-loving spirit you always have (even if this battle with the city has knocked the wind out of you right now). You will rise like the Phoenix you describe above.
Thanki you, Dennis, brom both Bob and I, for the opporutinities that you gave to us and RETREAT to be part of the Sand Point Antique & Vintage Market's venerable history. We are so proud to have been able to participate, to get to know the other dealers, and you. It was an invaluable step in our growth of our business and our brand image to have been part of it, and we thank you you for that. I know I speak for the entire local industry when I say that you are a treasured part of our success and our history, and we owe you a debt of tratitude for all that you have done.

Well that is sad unfair and typical. What about Lake City community center? Or some other place in Magnuson. Or a petition or letters to the paper?
